I love what I do!

Have you ever looked at a toy in the store and noticed the kid on the side of the box looking like hes never been more excited in his life? Or wonder how all of those ethnically diverse children happen to be playing with the same toy at the same time?! Well, now I know how it all works! The last two day I have been working for a company that is developing a new line of toys. The toy line will be under the name "Puddle Jumper" and will be in Target. We also did some pictures for a line of RC toys called Ignite that has been out for a little while.
My co-worker, Carrie Purser, was contacted about doing the hair and makeup for this shoot but was way too busy to fit it in. She asked me if I would be interested and I was able to make it work. I had so much fun! We did it all right here in Logan at Dunker Imaging. Chris (the photographer) has a huge studio space that he and his wife (an interior designer) share. I didn't take a lot of pictures because obviously, I was working, but here is what I got...

The set the first day I was there
A couple of kids posing
A couple of the models, Ava and Emily
My work space at the end of the day!

I loved it and I don't mind working with kids (seeing as how I did it for a year and a half at CC). I hope lots more opportunities like this come my way in the future!

Bridal Faire

Today has been a long day...but the Bridal Show Sarah (Le Boss) and I went to was good! It was held at the Riverwood Conference Center and tons of people were there! I had to leave early because I'm a bit under the weather (Sorry Sarah!) But I did a quick up do on Jacie (Thanks Jace!) and snapped a few pictures...

This is completely not related but I thought this cake was way cute (even though its yellow)...
The other cakes and flowers at this booth were awesome, too. It was Lee's Marketplace! I would have never guessed this quality from a grocery store. I promise Lee's isn't paying me to say this...I'm just givin' credit where credit is do, yo! (That would probably be a poor investment of advertising funds on their part anyhow haha)
Check ya later!

Katniss

Jacie (AKA Tammy the hair-doll) gets to go to "The Hunger Games" tonight! Not that I care, its not like I'm jelly or anything... She was kinda dressing up like Katniss so I quickly braided her hair! Katniss, in the movie, has a diagonal braid across the back of her head. The images I saw were a little more "outtie" than mine is but I think it turned out decent for a 2 minute job...

Can't wait to hear how the movie is! Hopefully I have something to post tomorrow, I'm currently in Coalville on dog sitting duty for my parents. Not much human interaction for me this weekend!
May the odds be ever in your favor...

Awesome New Service!!

Hola! So, for those that don't know, I work at a Bumble and bumble Salon here in Logan. I love it! They have a new line of products I'm pretty jazzed about (yes,I say 'jazzed'. I am aware I have the mannerisms of a 70 year old...). Its their Straight Line. They have styling products and also a smoothing treatment that is awesome!
I was the first one at the salon to try it and I was very impressed. The best part is it's formaldehyde, lye and cysteine free! Lots of smoothing treatments, like Brazilian Blowout, contain those ingredients and are about to be banned (seeing as how they are cancer causing chemicals, NBD).
Here's the part where you can pretend I took a before picture. I was too excited to do the treatment and forgot! Kimi's natural texture is tight, ethnic curls...

UPDATE!!! Kimi just sent me a before picture!!!

Super shiny, smooth and soft! It also locks in your color so it lasts a lot longer. Can't wait to do more of this service!

Fishtail

Ya know how fishtail braids seem tre hard to do? Guess what? They aren't! I'll show you...
I split the hair into two halves, thusly

Next I took a section from one side and crossed it over

And then did it to the other side

I continued it all the way down her hair...

Ta-dah!

There you go! I love fishtail braids. They speak to the part of me that sometimes wishes I had long bohemian, hippy hair. (Then it takes me like, a minute to do my hair and I remember why I love my short 'do!) Once I figured them out I was pretty much impressed with my awesome skills. Now you can be too! I mean, with your awesome skills though.

Dessert Wine is out...
Les

Hair Dos
-The smaller the sections you cross back and forth, the more intricate this will look
-Try to make the sections as even as possible
-Spread the braid out a little for a more "un-done" look

The Not-Knots

Raise your hand if you missed me! I'm back by popular demand Ladies and Gents. I just got done coloring Jacie's hair so I decided to do a couple of styles on her. I stole this style from my co-worker Hannah. I love when she does her hair like this. It looks like she knotted it but its just a little trick-a-roo.

To start, I back-combed her hair at the crown a bit...

She kept moving when I was trying to take this picture so I got angry and said "How dare you move, you are my personal hair doll. Hold still!" to which Jacie replied "OOO, what's my name then?!". We decided on Tammy.
I pulled Tammy's hair up like so and put it in an elastic...

Now here is the trick-a-roo part. I look a piece of hair from the ponytail and wrapped it around the elastic until its hidden and secured it with a bobby pin.

I do this to finish off most of my ponytails, it looks more finished and fancy. I then did another ponytail at the nape of her neck and wrapped the elastic.
(Don't mind Baylee, lookin all creepy in this picture. She's had a rough day..)

Hannah usually does three "knots"down her head. I love it and people always tell her how pretty it looks. Including me. I did another style on "Tammy" and also have pictures of an awesome new service I am going to be offering at the salon. You'll definitely be hearing more from me very soon!

At the heart of every joke is the truth...

I have been slacking at this so horribly! So to make up for it, I'm sharing this YouTube video my co-workers and I have been getting a kick out of. Not all of this is the truth but like the title of this post says...My favorite part? "Tell her not to come..."
Have a good weekend!!

Trends 2012

A client of mine asked me what the trends where this year and it got my thinking, so I decided to write a little post!

Braids

All anyone can talk about these days are braids. Good thing I love'em!I thought this trend would start to wain but , if anything, its picking up steam!

Bobs

The haircut heard 'round the world...Jennifer Aniston's bob. I tell you what, this woman must crap gold. Anything she does sends women out in droves to do the EXACT same thing.

I luurve Rhianna's hair like this! A-symmetrical is becoming more and more mainstream and I have been doing this particular haircut a lot lately.

Pastel Color

This is a trend that I have really been digging. Pink, purple, blue, darker fading to light, light fading to dark, I've been seeing all of it! I particularly like it in the dip-dye or ombr'e style like in these two pictures.

(don't mind this creepy, eastern-European looking woman wearing a crop jacket for a shirt. Casually holding a kitten...)

Red

WOW this is blowing up here in Cache Valley! We had about 3 girls in the salon today with some variation of these colors. With this trend, (no matter if its a copper-red, vivid red, or red-violet) the key is for it to be as bright as possible! Only problem, its A LOT of up keep.

See ya!

Getting back on track...

I could DIE is so nice outside! I drove home from work with my window down. Its a Christmas Miracle! Too bad it probably wont stay this way. Sigh...

I tried out my new eyeshadow today and I am in LOVE! I put on the eye primer before hand and wanted to show you how amazing it works! I took this picture of myself this morning around 8:15...

I took this picture of myself maybe 10 minutes ago (around 6:20 pm)...

I swear there were no touch ups!! I worked from 9 am to a little after 5 and have had a BUSY day. Plus I work under these lights you could cook an egg under! My make up is usually halfway down my face and in the creases of my eye by about 2 pm but this stuff ain't budging. I highly recommend it!

My client/photographer I have worked with/all-around awesome gal, Heidi, had me cut her hair today and brought me a photograph from a shoot I helped her with. I did a braided up-do on the gorgeous Karissa...

The rest of this photo is intended for mature audiences but if you like to check of some of Heidi's work here is a link to her site...heidibruner.com

The photograph is so beautiful and after Heidi is a world famous photographer, I'll sell it for my retirement fund!

Peace out, girl scouts~

Who wants a make over?

Its been a rough weekend, folks! Alotta hair was done (and re-done, in the case of my sister) and some miles were put on old ChiChi (my car, she is Latina). I did some Prom hair and make up and started the process of taking Jackie from red to blond. If you do hair, you know how stressful this can be! We are on the right track though.
I was in desperate need of some new makeup so Jacie, Gooch and I took a little jaunt to Sephora in Ogden. I bought quite a few things but here are my favorite two...

Eyeshadow Primer Potion by Urban Decay

I've had this before but ran out and never got around to buying more. I love it! They have changed the packaging, which I actually like better. Its a squeeze tube instead of having a wand. I got the kind that is flesh-toned but they also make different colors. Apply this to your eyelids before any thing else and you wont believe how long your eye makeup stays on!!

Next up is this little gem...
Natural at Night palette by Too Faced

They have a few different palettes like this and I had the hardest time deciding! Gooch had to help me out. If I were made of money, I would have sawed off a finger and bought them all! But alas, I'm made of flesh and bone and I doubt limbs transfer in currency. I haven't tried these colors out yet but I can't wait!! Maybe tomorrow is the day...Look out Monday clients, eyeshadow model coming through!

Here's to a sunny, stress-free week!

Prom is here!

I went to a Young Women's activity last night! Shocked much? I was helping out my co-worker, Carrie Purser (I usually put a THE infront of her name!) with an activity for her ward. They wanted to do something just before prom for the girls. Our co-worker Kelly, talked to them about skin and eyebrows, Carrie did makeup and I did hair. It was hard to do a really good job when I'm working out of a Relief Society room but I made it work! I showed them some curls, a waterfall braid and this little hair style...

It got a little messed up because she put her coat and hood on before I asked her if I could snap a a picture.
Kelly had some awesome tips for skin care and did a eyebrow waxing demonstration. We had just come from an Eminence training (the skin care line we use at our salon) so she was full of useful stuff.
Carrie did two different types of eye makeup. One was the classic smokey eye with a little bit of a cat eye that all the girls wanted to know how to do. (All they could talk about was Adele) The other eye was a trend that is coming in right now using bright pastels (sounds like a contradiction but it makes sense when you see it!) on the lid.
I'd call it a success simply because the church didn't burn down when we walked in but it was fun and the girls were cute. I'm going to be trying out something kinda crazy tonight, if it turns out I'll post it tomorrow!!
