Today

So, I just deleted a half a page worth of writing. Why? My mood changed half way through. What can I say? I'm a fickle girl. A regular Scarlet O'Hara, this one. I have the poster to prove it...

Like that shot? I didn't even bother to get off the couch to capture that one. I got my poster from Aunt Lynnie, who knows how long ago, but it follows me wherever I go. It resides next to a framed Casablanca post card and my James Dean picture from Gooch. Its a good corner of my house.

Back to my point...if I ever had one. I was waxing all rhapsodic about the what a great day I had today and how it makes up for any of the negative aspects of my job. Like how some days I feel like I have no clue what the hell I am doing. But then I look at my work and see how much I am bettering myself as a stylist and makeup artist everyday...

To sum up all of my feelings today, I'll just leave you with this...
Y'all have a good night, ya hear?

Getting back on track...

I could DIE is so nice outside! I drove home from work with my window down. Its a Christmas Miracle! Too bad it probably wont stay this way. Sigh...

I tried out my new eyeshadow today and I am in LOVE! I put on the eye primer before hand and wanted to show you how amazing it works! I took this picture of myself this morning around 8:15...

I took this picture of myself maybe 10 minutes ago (around 6:20 pm)...

I swear there were no touch ups!! I worked from 9 am to a little after 5 and have had a BUSY day. Plus I work under these lights you could cook an egg under! My make up is usually halfway down my face and in the creases of my eye by about 2 pm but this stuff ain't budging. I highly recommend it!

My client/photographer I have worked with/all-around awesome gal, Heidi, had me cut her hair today and brought me a photograph from a shoot I helped her with. I did a braided up-do on the gorgeous Karissa...

The rest of this photo is intended for mature audiences but if you like to check of some of Heidi's work here is a link to her site...heidibruner.com

The photograph is so beautiful and after Heidi is a world famous photographer, I'll sell it for my retirement fund!

Peace out, girl scouts~

Who wants a make over?

Its been a rough weekend, folks! Alotta hair was done (and re-done, in the case of my sister) and some miles were put on old ChiChi (my car, she is Latina). I did some Prom hair and make up and started the process of taking Jackie from red to blond. If you do hair, you know how stressful this can be! We are on the right track though.
I was in desperate need of some new makeup so Jacie, Gooch and I took a little jaunt to Sephora in Ogden. I bought quite a few things but here are my favorite two...

Eyeshadow Primer Potion by Urban Decay

I've had this before but ran out and never got around to buying more. I love it! They have changed the packaging, which I actually like better. Its a squeeze tube instead of having a wand. I got the kind that is flesh-toned but they also make different colors. Apply this to your eyelids before any thing else and you wont believe how long your eye makeup stays on!!

Next up is this little gem...
Natural at Night palette by Too Faced

They have a few different palettes like this and I had the hardest time deciding! Gooch had to help me out. If I were made of money, I would have sawed off a finger and bought them all! But alas, I'm made of flesh and bone and I doubt limbs transfer in currency. I haven't tried these colors out yet but I can't wait!! Maybe tomorrow is the day...Look out Monday clients, eyeshadow model coming through!

Here's to a sunny, stress-free week!

Leopard Print Makeup... Say What?!

This is an awesome tutorial I found from an industry website I like. Bad ass, huh?
If any of the girls I work with are reading this, they are probably thinking, "She would..." My blowdryer, clippers, brush, hairclips and cape are all leopard print. Hey, it's my thing. Bonus, I know if someone has jacked my stuff! haha
I would'nt say this is exactly feesable for everyday life, but if you can rock it, DO IT!
Don't worry, I'll be back tomorrow!

Retro Eyeliner

I love makeup, but lets be real. I don't go all 'Super Model Documentary Hour' everyday. In fact some days, I don't even wear makeup. And I go to work that way! This is not because I'm all 'free spirit-y' it because I'm LAZY. By the time I get done showering, doing my hair, finding an outfit and taking care of the dogs, having time to stop for coffee sounds WAY better than doing my make up. But if I need a quick way to do my make up, this little demo is one of the ways I do it. It looks pretty and classic but it takes me like five minutes, I swear!

This is what I used today

This is my new liquid liner. It works better than any liquid liner I have used before! It doesn't smudge or imprint itself onto my upper lids as the day goes on. Super user friendly, goes on evenly, and dries fast.

EyeStudio by Maybelline in Blackest Black

To begin, I got out my trusty ShadeStick in Beige-ing by MAC. Apply that from lash line to crease and use your finger to spread it around, feathering it up to your brow bone. Then I put the bottom color in my Cafe Classics palette on from lash line to eyebrow.

Now for the eyeliner!! What I did was practice on my hand a little to get the feel for it. Start with a little!

I lined my top lid first. To give it the retro look I wanted, I did it thicker on the outside and much thinner on the inside. I flared it out on the outside corner of my eye for a kinda 'cat eye' look. Let your first coat dry for a second and then go over it again, touching up any places that need it.

Then I put a little on my bottom lids. Not everyone has to to do this. I do it because they way my eyes are shaped, I feel like they look droopy when I have nothing on the bottom. So, it is up to you! I put a little on the outside corner and then mostly just filled in lightly between my lashes (good trick to make it seem like you have more lashes on the bottom!). Do the other eye but go slow and double check to be sure your eyes are even. I have one eyelid that is droopier(apparently 'droopy' is my word of the day) than the other so mine rarely look EXACTLY the same. Play with yours a little, but quit while you are ahead. Too much jet black liquid liner all over your eyes, not a good look for you, my dude!

This calls for a little stronger eyebrow so if you don't usually "do" your eyebrows today might be the day you try it out. I like this eyebrow brush by Bobbi Brown in Blonde. Its perfect for my light eyebrows and goes on like mascara!

Then I did, a couple coats of black mascara(curl your lashes first!) and finished getting ready for the day! This is pretty minimalist in terms of eye make up so feel free to do a pretty lip color(red maybe?)! One day I will show you a really pretty hair style to do with this makeup. You'll look like Marilyn Monroe, I swear! (like me, DUH!)

Thank you, come again!

Don't be hating on my Bonnebell

I do have other, expensive nice makeup. I just like this certain eyeshadow set from Bonnebell. It's just one of the many ways I make myself more accessible to you "common folk". SO, in case you haven't guessed, I'm going to show you my eye make up today! I went for a golden/bronzy look I haven't done for a VERY long time. I'm sure you are just overcome with excitement!

The Products we will be using today!

Step #1 -Wash Your Face!

Get all the mascara clumps from your lashes. Flaky mascara=no bueno!

Step #2-Prep your lids!

I have used many a eye primer in my life. Urban Decay makes a good one and MAC has several to choose from. Today I'm using a Shade Stick by MAC. These aren't necessarily for priming. They are for intensifying pigments and for layering different colors. BUT they also prime your eyelid so the makeup stays on better and doesn't crease. The color I used is called Beige-ing. It's beige. Clever, huh? I put it on from lash line to crease and then I use my finger to feather it up to my brow bone. DO NOT let it get really heavy, especially on your brown bone. Bad things will happen.

Step#3- Applying the Eyeshadow

This is where the Bonnebell comes in. Its called Cafe Classics and I use it EVERYDAY. Without shame. The bottom color, the one with the biggest spot, is the perfect color to put all over your lid. From lash line to brown bone. So do it.
Next, I my MAC color pot in Goldmine and put it on from lash line to crease. Start off with a little bit and then add more. MAC's colors are intense, like Indians makin' babies, so a little goes a long way!

Goldmine from lash line to crease

Moving on to the color on the outer corner of my eye.The color I used to today is called Amber Lights by MAC. Now, I don't use brushes very often. I have them but I really just use my fingers. Sounds weird but it works, I promise! I start at the outer corner of my eye, move up and make a 'C' shape into the crease of my eye. When I feel like I have the right amount of color on, I take my finger and rub it down into the other color. Just blend it all around,(as you can see in this AWESOME picture) without going above the crease or too far into the inner corner of your eye, until it looks pretty! You can add a little more gold to the inside corner if you'd like. Don't push too hard. #1- cus you'll rub all the color off #2-Ouch.

Step#4-Eyeliner

Eyeliner is all about preference. I prefer a black, soft kohl eyeliner. Some like liquid. While sometime I use liquid liners, I find the soft ones are more forgiving. If your line isn't perfect, rub it back and forth until it is! I line my bottom lid, then my top. Make sure your line is fatter on the outside and tapers in to almost nothing on the inside. Unless you like heavier liner. In which case, ignore me!

Step#5- Mascara

Two coats of black mascara. I used Glam'eyes by Rimmel in black. Cus that's what I have right now. And I heart Zooey Dechanel.

BOOM! Done-zo!

Make up DO's

  • Practice makes perfect!

Make up DON'Ts

  • Don't be afraid to try new colors. Make up is suppose to be FUN!

  • Don't do a bold eye color with a bold lip color. You'll look like a hooker.

  • Don't forget to blend, blend, blend!

  • Don't get too concerned with what every fashion/beauty magazine (or me, for that matter!) says to do. They all contradict one another anyhow!

Peace out, girl scouts!
