Today

So, I just deleted a half a page worth of writing. Why? My mood changed half way through. What can I say? I'm a fickle girl. A regular Scarlet O'Hara, this one. I have the poster to prove it...

Like that shot? I didn't even bother to get off the couch to capture that one. I got my poster from Aunt Lynnie, who knows how long ago, but it follows me wherever I go. It resides next to a framed Casablanca post card and my James Dean picture from Gooch. Its a good corner of my house.

Back to my point...if I ever had one. I was waxing all rhapsodic about the what a great day I had today and how it makes up for any of the negative aspects of my job. Like how some days I feel like I have no clue what the hell I am doing. But then I look at my work and see how much I am bettering myself as a stylist and makeup artist everyday...

To sum up all of my feelings today, I'll just leave you with this...
Y'all have a good night, ya hear?

What I wish every week was like...

So I pretty much had the best week ever! Its felt like I am living in Music/Hair Heaven! My parents are awesome and got me tickets to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for my birthday! I don't know how many of you know this, but I am obsessed with Tom Petty. The closest venue he was playing at was in Colorado. My brother and I road tripped it over there on Tuesday to see the opening night of his tour on Wednesday. It was amazing! Chase is the best brother ever for coming with me. Love you Buddy! Here is a video I took of him singing my jam!
Another awesome thing that happened last week? My college Bestie, Steph, came to see me at my parent's house! We colored her hair and hung out with my mama and the dogs. She has been rockin' the brown to blonde ombre and decided this time she wanted to do it in red! It turned out way pretty...
To round out my Week of Awesomeness, I had not one but TWO girls come in for Prom styles! This is Sydnee and she was ALL about the poof! Girl after my own heart, I tell ya...

This turned out so good! When she made the appointment, she just wanted curls but at the last minute changed her mind. I was, of course, happy to oblige! Next we have Mary-Kate...
JK! Different Mary Kate! Although I did get a kick out of thinking about funny Very Mary Kate jokes to myself all morning...

I hope the girls had fun at Prom! Mary Kate told me she was a "crazy dancer" which made me concernicus. I set my hairspray and bobby pinning abilities to Drag Queen Mode and went to work! If that didn't hold it, I don't know what will!
Like I said, awesome week! I will be making an announcement tomorrow. 90% of my viewers already know what it is but its nice to make a formal statement or whatever, ya know? I like to be official like that.
Peace out, girl scouts!

Hair Chalking

WARNING: This will NOT come out of blond hair after one wash! Also, it will get on your pillow case/clothes if you sleep with it in. Children under the age of 18 who's mother will kill them for trying this and then find me: please refrain. Don't say you were not warned!

Now that my PSA is over, we can get to the fun stuff! I love the look of hair chalking! Its more subtle and cool than stain. And less permanent. And messy. And there are more colors to choose from. I'll stop now...
Jacie loves to have different colors in her hair so she was totally down for this! Here is what we used...

I redid Jacie's highlights this evening so I had some pre cut foils lying around. Yours don't have to be as pretty as mine.

These are the oil pastels she picked out. I have a whole pack of them from The Lobby (Hobby Lobby, that is...) They need to be oil pastels! She wanted it to fade from this pinky purple to the dark purple...

I grabbed a section of her hair and twisted it like so...

I did this because I'm going to start the color mid-shaft and don't want there to be an exact line where it begins. Ala Ombr'e style. I did the first color and then, overlapping a little, put the darker color on the ends. Use your finger to really get the chalk in there...

I flipped the strand back and forth to really get it covered. Then we did a strand that was solid of the lighter color. Just for fun, just to see how it looks, just because. I then placed the colored strand on a piece of foil and halved it so the strand was sandwiched in it...

Here comes the part you really need to pay attention to! You are going to take your hot flat iron to this piece of foil. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT fry you hair off. Fast hands people! It only takes a little bit of heat...

Let it cool for a second and take it out of the foil. Run a brush through it because its going to be kinda ratty. This is what Jace's looked like...

Pretty frickin' cool huh?! The dark purple didn't turn out as vibrant as we wanted so I might play around with it a little more. I haven't tried this on a brunette yet but rumor has it if you get a little water on the pastels, put them on the hair, and then do the foil/flat iron thing, it works! And washes out faster. Let me know if anyone tries this!

Dessert wine is out,

Les

Color Do's

-When in doubt, please ask a professional

-Try fun color combinations!

-I'm being serious when I say fashion colors (pink, purple, blue, ect) are very in. Like, Giga Pets in '95 kinda 'in'. Not just for teenagers, for regular people with adult jobs and stuff. Its all about placement and tone.

Color Don'ts

-I can't stress this enough, be easy with the flat iron for this project. Its better to go over the same foil twice for short amounts of time than once for long amounts of time.

-Don't do this while wearing a nice white shirt and then wonder why you have a little bit of pink on said shirt. AKA, turn your brain on.
